Monika Grassl is a documentary film director and editor with a background in media and journalism. After graduating from her first studies (Mediamanagement) by writing a thesis about "The nature of documentary filmmaking – dramaturgic and cinematographic elements“, she was working for several production companies in Austria and France with a focus on documentary film. From 2008 to 2015 she studied documentary filmmaking at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Germany. During her studies she worked as a researcher for “The House of Documentary Film” in Stuttgart, Germany. In 2012 she directed the documentary WHERE TIME STOPS (German TV channel WDR). Her last feature length documentary GIRLS DON’T FLY was shown at a range of international film festivals and won several awards. Since 2016 she has been living and working as a filmmaker and editor between Paris, France and Austria.
